What Are The Common Tools Used In Melbourne Joinery?
There are a number of tools that could be used in the completion of Melbourne joinery projects but, as with many building and construction works, there are four that are considered as being the ‘most common’. These are the band saw, wood chisel, and the fore plane – if you are interested in completing your own joinery project, these are what you’ll need.
- Band Saw
This is highly useful for completing joinery projects, as it is highly versatile in its applications and is able to manipulate even the larger pieces of wood. A band saw actually consists of two or three large mechanical wheels that power a belt, which, in turn, rotates a blade. As this saw is so bulky, it is not portable can only be used in the workshop.
- Wood Chisel
This is also a highly useful tool for Melbourne joinery, even though it seems very simplistic in design. Basically, it is a sharpened chunk of metal that has been formed into a plane (or wedge) at one end. There is a range of sizes available for chisels, allowing you to choose an appropriate one.
- Fore Plane
An irreplaceable joinery tool, a fore plane is used to create a perfectly level surface on any wooden object. As well as this, it can be used to create curves in the timber when the plane is used on an angle or curved as you run it along the wooden surface.
There are, of course, a number of other tools that are highly useful for Melbourne joinery (including other saws, planes, and routers) but all of the same projects can be completed in a similar fashion by using the three tools listed above. Try them out on your next joinery project and see how they work for you.
